Stieg Larsson

Stieg Larsson was born in Västerbotten in Sweden on August 15, 1954.  He was raised by his grandparents since his parents were too poor and young to raise him themselves.  Larsson’s grandfather was an anti-fascist and was thought to be in a concentration camp for some time during World War 2.  After that, Larsson wanted to fight for equal rights and democracy.  When he was nine, his grandfather died and he was forced to live with his parents.  For his twelfth birthday, he got his very first typewriter which he would stay up late typing into the night.  When he was eighteen years old, he met Eva Gabrielsson at an anti-Vietnam war.  Stieg travelled through Africa as an early backpacker even though he rarely had enough money.  He served in the military for several years also.  During the last 15 years of his life, he and his companion Eva, could never leave the house together nor could they let the blinds up since they were in a constant threat since their pictures were found in an apartment of a guy that murder a labor-union leader.
